Shannen is in it to win it. However, as far as the typically revealing “Dancing With The Stars” outfits the contestants wear – Shannen said she’s not about to go toe-to-toe with Pamela Anderson.

“She can have that domain as far as I’m concerned. I’m not an exhibitionist at all. I’m a little bit conservative,” she admitted. “And my grandmother is watching this from Mississippi and would kill me if showed too much skin!”

While some celebrities might take on “Dancing with the Stars” for exposure – or a paycheck – Shannen Doherty’s ballroom motivation is much different – and much more personal. On Christmas Day 2009, Shannen’s father, Tom, suffered a massive stroke that left him immobile and able to say little more than “Yes” or “No.” But when the former “90210″ star told him she was offered a spot on “Dancing,” her dad perked up.

“He got really excited and was like, ‘Yeah! Yeah!’” Shannen told Access Hollywood’s Maria Menounos during her recent DWTS rehearsal. “And I was like, ‘No! No! No!’” the actress laughed.

During her visit to Shannen’s rehearsal with partner Mark Ballas, Maria also played the actress a clip from a 2007 Access interview where Shannen said she’d never do “Dancing with the Stars.”

“I watch ‘Dancing with the Stars’ and I love it,” she told Access at the time.
“Would you ever consider doing that show?” Access asked.
“No! I’d be way too nervous. I couldn’t handle it,” she said in 2007.
Fast-forward to 2010 and Shannen’s newfound motivation.
“I have a fear of live audiences – a huge, huge fear. It’s really bad. I get hives all over. I hyperventilate,” the actress revealed to Maria. “That’s why I’m saying it’s only for my dad that I’m here and facing my fear.”

And Shannen is hoping that it might motivate her dad to confront his fear.

“There are days when I think anybody in that position with health problems like he’s had forever, you know you give up. And on those days, my mom calls me and I rush over there and I’m like, “OK, I’m in dance clothes — but I could be in street clothes any second now,’” she grinned. “Because of it, he’s gotten a lot better.”

Candy Spelling is confident Hollywood’s reformed bad girl Shannen Doherty can waltz her way to a Dancing With the Stars disco ball trophy.

“Shannen is good at anything she wants to do, so I think she will be good at this,” Spelling beamed yesterday at Debbie Durkin’s Eco-Oscars Green Carpet Hospitality Lounge in Beverly Hills.

With Doherty, 36, following in the DWTS footsteps of fellow 90210 alums Ian Ziering and Jennie Garth, we just had to ask Ms. Spelling if she thinks daughter Tori will be the next West Bev grad to slip on her dancin’ shoes. Unfortunately, it doesn’t sound like the 36-year-old married mommy of two has any plans to salsa with the best of them yet.

“I think Tori’s too busy with her show that she doesn’t have time,” Candy said. “She’s also got her baby line and two more books coming out.”

Even though Tori probably won’t be a part of ABC’s hit show anytime soon, Candy is proud of how far her daughter’s 90210 costar Doherty has come since her hard-partying days, and she is excited to watch her take center stage.

“I think a lot of [young] people get caught up in a lot of things that go on in Hollywood, and as they get older it gets better,” Candy said. “I can’t wait to watch this season!”

We couldn’t agree more. Doherty on Dancing gives us even more of a reason to tune in! (Source)

Despite suffering stage fright, Shannen Doherty finally decided to do Dancing with the Stars after her father suffered a near-fatal stroke on Christmas.

“He lost his speech, he wasn’t mobile. He was really struggling, and still is,” she told People in a Tuesday report.

“When I mentioned [Dancing with the Stars] to him, he got really excited, and he wanted me to do it. I thought, if my dad can fight through having a stroke and the loss of being able to communicate, I think I can do this for him. So I figured I’m going to get over my fear for him.”

Doherty is one of 11 celebrity participants competing on Dancing with the Stars tenth season, which premieres March 22.

The former Scare Tactics and Breaking Up with Shannen Doherty host had previously turned down chances to compete on Dancing with the Stars, including an offer to compete on its initial Summer 2005 season.

“I have a huge fear of live audiences,” she explained to People. “I break out in hives, full blown panic attacks, and everything else.”

In addition to dealing with her fear of live audiences, Doherty also said she needs to build up her strength so she’s physically fit for the series.

“I don’t work out. I need to get my endurance up,” she told People. “I’m going to get in great shape.”

Doherty is also confident she’ll have a good time since fellow former 90210 co-stars Ian Ziering and Jennie Garth have already competed on the ABC reality series.

“Everyone who I know who’s been on the show has had a great time,” she told People. “It’s with hesitation and fear, but it’s going to be good to conquer a fear.”
